If you're marketing anything, I think it'd be a good idea to use your profile picture as a logo of sorts. Maybe put up a logo of your business or site so that the site gets some recognition from users who view your profile. Also make sure to have a link associated with it right in the picture if possible.

For a company profile I think a logo would be great, but for personal profiles I prefer an image with a smiling face.
